The World Food Prize Foundation announced the 2025 Top Agri-food Pioneers (TAP) list of 39 visionary scientists, farmers, policy advisors, entrepreneurs and humanitarians in June 2025. GFN member Zeinab Ahmad Al Momany is included in the 2025 cohort.
Here is her story, which originally appeared on the TAP website. Aware of the limited income-generating opportunities in Ajloun, Jordan, Zeinab Ahmad Al Momany founded the Sakhrah Women’s Society Cooperative in 2003. The cooperative started with small projects such as harvesting and drying vegetables, cleaning grains, packaging crops, dairy production and needlework. The cooperative then started offering revolving loans to members so they could start their own income-generating projects. As the cooperative started to expand, Al Momany established the Specific Union for Female Farmers in Jordan in 2007, assisting female agricultural laborers in confronting unemployment, poverty and the exploitation and violence. Zeinab has also worked on women’s access to capital and land by advocating for the Jordanian Farmers’ Union to accept members who rent land, not only own, as well as raising awareness among women of their land ownership rights.
