Dr. Mariangela Hungria will receive the 2025 World Food Prize for her extraordinary scientific advancements in biological nitrogen fixation, transforming the sustainability of soil health and crop nutrition for tropical agriculture. The low-cost technologies and products that she has developed have increased crop productivity sustainably and affordably across tens of millions of hectares.

The Laureate Announcement was held at the distinguished Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates in Des Moines, Iowa, and, as shown here, was presided over by the Governor of Iowa, the Honorable Kim Reynolds. The program began with opening remarks from World Food Prize Foundation CEO Thomas J. Vilsack, followed by the announcement of the 2025 Laureate by Foundation President Mashal Husain. The ceremony concluded with remarks from Laureate Selection Committee Chair Dr. Gebisa Ejeta and Foundation Board Chair Paul Schickler, reflecting on the global impact of the Prize and the legacy of Dr. Borlaug.
